Hi there! Happy Tuesday to you! I hope your week is off to a great start. Mine is okay I suppose. I was not feeling so great yesterday. I felt very run down and my throat was bothering me. Needless to say, I was asleep by 9pm. I feel a little bit more rested today although my allergies are still bothering me. I’m hoping it’s just allergies. I think it might be because of the drastic changes in weather. My allergies do not like when there are drastic changes in weather. I just need to make sure that I’m staying hydrated and getting sleep and I should be good to go.
Moving on, let’s talk about something exciting! On Saturday, Mike and I were invited to try out a brand new restaurant before it opened to the public yesterday! It was the Carmel Cafe and Wine Bar. This is a restaurant chain only located in Florida and they opened up their first location in Pennsylvania yesterday. It is located in Wayne, PA which is the “Main Line” for those fellow PA people of mine! So let me tell you a little bit around this restaurant. This is taken from their press release that I received. The restaurant features “Mod Med” cuisine which incorporates and updates flavors and foods of countries such as Italy, Spain, France, Greece, and Morocco while celebrating the healthy benefits of the Mediterranean-style way of eating. Seasonal produce, quality meats and seafood plus simple preparation define the menu at Carmel Cafe and Wine Bar.
The restaurant uses a MenuPad at each table so that guests can customize their dining experience. The MenuPad allows diners to control the preparation, portions, presentation and pacing of their dining experience, and to identify the perfect wines to pair with the food.
Their global wine list offers diners, three, six, nine ounce pours or by the bottle. They have specifically been chosen to pair well with the cuisine of the restaurant. The decor is bright and vibrant with a full-service bar.
We were given the opportunity to each try two drinks (wine, cocktail, or beer). As well as order two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert to share. It was quite the experience! I thought the atmosphere of the restaurant was just beautiful. It was dimly lit and you could see the display of wine in the distance. It was so romantic. I really enjoyed that about the restaurant.
For our appetizers, we ordered, Edamame Hummus & Chickpea Fries.
The edamame hummus has great flavor. It was a lot different from regular hummus. The vegetable chips were a nice way to enjoy the hummus with. My favorite appetizer was the chickepea fries! I thought they were so unique!! When you bit into the fry, it contained chickpeas and almost like a hummus consistency. I thought it was delicious. The dipping sauces that it came with were fabulous as well. The one was almost a curry like sauce with a bit of a kick and then the other sauce was a jelly which cooled it down. I thought it was so unique and my favorite thing about the restaurant!
For my entree, I ordered the Basil Grilled Salmon with couscous and kalmata olive tapenade.
The salmon was light and buttery and just fell apart with my fork. It was perfectly cooked and the portion was quite large! I had plenty of food to take home with me.
Mike ordered the Braised Short Ribs with creamy polenta and olive tapenade.
The Short Ribs were cooked perfectly. Mike loved it! He said it almost tasted like brisket. It had the same type of consistency. He really enjoyed it. I tried the polenta and I thought it was nice and creamy and had great flavor.
We were both impressed with our meals and couldn’t wait for dessert! For dessert, we ordered the Dessert Trio!
This trio contained a chocolate almond truffle, a chocolate coffee truffle and cherry pudding. I enjoyed the truffles. They were coated in dark chocolate which I love. I didn’t really like the pudding in the center. It kind of reminded me of cherry yogurt. I just didn’t like the form of it.
I thought it was a great experience and I cannot wait to go back! Although, this restaurant isn’t very close to where we live. It’s actually near where I used to work, I would still take the trip to try this restaurant again. I love the concept and the food was fantastic! Definitely try it if you are near one!
Have you ever been to Carmel Cafe and Wine Bar? Do you think you’d like ordering on an ipad?
Have a great Tuesday!
