Honeymoon Recap: Sandals Grande Antigua – A Look at Favorite Places Around The Resort!

Hi there!  I hope you are enjoying the recap of our honeymoon.  I know I am.  It’s making me miss those beautifully warm sunny days!  I miss the delicious food, and relaxing and just getting away from reality and being in paradise.  Antigua truly is a beautiful place and I hope you will take the time to go visit one day.  The people are so nice there and have a very laid back attitude.  It almost has the same vibe that I would imagine Jamaica having.  The people sound like they have Jamaican accents.  It truly is paradise and Sandals Grande Antigua was voted the most romantic resort in the Caribbean and I can totally agree with that.  It is a very romantic resort.  Now let’s continue with the recap!

Our first full day, we decided to get a couples massage.  We had both never had a massage before and needless to say, it was a rather interesting experience.  We were both in the same room, on tables next to each other. It was pretty relaxing but would I do it again?  I’m not sure.  It made for a nice experience on our honeymoon though.  I don’t have any pictures of it so I’m just going to continue with pictures and recaps as we go along.  Not everything is going to be in order because it’s hard for me to remember the order of everything.  As you will notice, I wore my hair curly the entire time we were there.  It was way too humid for me to straighten it.  I was glad to give my flat iron a rest for a week.  I’m sure my hair thanked me.

A surprise that was waiting for us when we got back from the beach/pool

Bathtub!

Our butlers would often decorate the room like this while we were away.

Another surprise from the butler! Shrimp cocktail and Champagne!

Another picture of the pool where we spent most of our days

Under the Sandals sign was the swim up bar! They made some of the most incredible drinks. It was nice to just sit on a float, have a cocktail and relax in the sun.

There was a pizzeria right by the pool where you could have lunch. This was one of my veggie pizzas.

Us in front of the Italian restaurant, Mario’s!

Cafe de Paris had coffee drinks, pastries, gelato. It was almost like a mini Starbucks! It was perfect for an afternoon snack or pick me up. We loved it there.

Me with my coffee!

Our second night, we had sushi before our hibachi reservation. The sushi was amazing!

Ready for hibachi!

Yes, we planned to match our outfits. We did that every night.

Our least favorite restaurant was the hibachi restaurant.  We both didn’t like the food at all.  It was a lot different than the hibachi that we are used to at home.  The best part of that night was getting seated next to another couple that was honeymooning.  We instantly clicked and became really good friends with them.  They are from Toronto and in that week, I think I learned more about Canada than I ever knew in my life.  We spent time with them a lot throughout the course of the week.  You will see them pop up in my recap soon.  We had dinner with them twice on our honeymoon.

Relaxing

The BEST pumpkin pancakes I ever had!

My beloved pumpkin pancakes again but now with a hashbrown on the side. Could you tell I liked the pumpkin pancakes there?

Delicious omelette with homefries. We ended up loving the breakfast at the tex-mex restaurant, OK Corral. We went there quite often for breakfast. It had beautiful views of the beach as well.

One afternoon at the pool, they opened up fresh coconuts and let us drink the water from them! The coconut water was refreshing. We both really liked it.

The middle of the week was when we were supposed to have our candlelight dinner on the beach.  However, a hurricane was fast approaching Antigua so they changed it for our last night there.  The hurricane actually missed Antigua but it did try to ruin one day.  It poured one day but that didn’t stop anyone!  We still sat in the pool and hot tub and enjoyed ourselves.  Most of the outdoor restaurants closed so that night we went to sushi with our new friends, Pam and Matt.  Despite the fact of rain, it doesn’t stop Sandals.  They still find a way to make you enjoy yourself and that is one thing that I really liked about the resort.

I have a lot left to recap and I feel like this post is getting very lengthy.  So I am going to leave off here and continue the rest of our honeymoon tomorrow or sometime this week.  I hope you are having fun recapping with us.

Have a great Friday!
