A Man’s Best Friend…

Hi there!  Happy Wednesday to you!  This week should be going by quick because it’s a short one but unfortunately for me, it’s going by slowly.  I hope it speeds up a bit.  At least it’s Wednesday and not Monday.  I’m at least thankful for that.  I’m still just so busy lately even after our wedding.  I think things will finally slow down after the first couple of weeks of next month.  We have a lot of things coming up.  I still need to change my last name.  I just got copies of our marriage certificate in the mail.  So I need to decide if I am going to take off from work or leave work early to go to the Social Security office and the DMV.  Then the fun begins of changing my last name on everything.  I want to change my last name.  I’m just trying to figure out the best time to go to the offices because they have horrible hours.  It figures.

Then in two weeks, I’m a bridesmaid in my friend/co-worker/bridesmaid in my wedding, Tarra’s wedding.  Her wedding is at 11am.  So I’ve been trying to figure out what I am going to do with my hair and makeup.  Her wedding is over an hour away from where we live.  So I might need to do everything myself.  I’m trying to see if someone can do my hair for me because I am so bad at doing hair.  I can do makeup but hair is another story.  The night of her wedding, is when Mike gets to use his wedding gift from me.  We are seeing and meeting Robert Irvine as I mentioned before.  We are both really excited for that!  That is going to be a very long day.

Next month, we have one of Mike’s old co-worker’s weddings to attend.  Thankfully for that wedding, we will both just be guests so we can relax and it won’t be stressful or anything of that nature.  I think I am done being a bridesmaid.  The next time I will be in someone’s wedding is when Melissa gets married.  I’m just not into the whole bridesmaid thing.  I don’t know why, I’m just not.  Have you ever been a bridesmaid?  Would you want to be one?

Anyway, yesterday was a very emotional day.  As I had mentioned before, Oliver was going in for surgery.

Oliver is almost 10 and a half years old.  He is a Bichon Frise.  I still remember the day that we picked him out like it was yesterday.  Oliver was Melissa’s birthday gift so he is pretty much her dog.  I have been around him like crazy for the past 10 years but when I moved out, I obviously didn’t live with him anymore and that was very hard.  I think it was harder when I was away at college.  I really missed him.  He is one of the most hyper, high-strung dogs I have ever met in my life.  He cries when he is happy.  He will lick your entire face, and body to show you how much he loves you.

He leaps into your arms and will not leave your side if he knows you.  If he doesn’t, he will bark for a while and then finally decide to stop once he realizes you aren’t going to hurt him.  His favorite past-time is sitting on the vent of the air conditioner in the summer.  He will not move when the air conditioner is on.  He loves the air blowing through his fur.  The thing that I love the most about him, is that he will stay by your side through anything.  If you cry, he will be there to lick your tears and comfort you.  If you get excited and start screaming and jumping up and down, he will be there to bark and run around in circles with you.  He is always there for you.

That is why Melissa, my mom, Mike and my dad, and I have always been there for him through everything.  Melissa and Oliver have a bond like I’ve never seen before.  He truly looks to her as she is his mother.  He listens to only her and will be by her side at all times.  He is so connected to her.  It was proved more evident yesterday when he needed surgery.  I was unable to take off work to go to bring him to the vet.  So Melissa went with our dad.  She said it was so hard to leave him there but he needed the surgery.

He had stones in his bladder that needed to be removed.  We waited for hours upon hours for updates.  Melissa called every hour.  He was in surgery for a very long time and we were getting very worried.  Melissa and I spoke through gchat all day reassuring ourselves that he would be okay.  He is such a strong dog and I knew that he would be alright.  Thankfully the next time Melissa called, she was notified that he just got out of surgery and he was recovering!  That was the best news that we heard all day.

She called for another update later on in the day and he was still doing great!  We are able to pick him up later this afternoon and I think we both couldn’t be more excited to see his white curly fluffy face!  When people say, oh it’s just a pet or he’s just a dog.  That is not true for my family or for most.  He truly is a part of our family.  He is a family member and a friend.  I am so thankful that he is okay and I hope that he will have a speedy recovery.  Do you have a pet?  Do you consider them part of your family?

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I’m glad he’s okay! Our pup, Oreo, is definitely a part of the family!

  2. I feel like I say this whenever you post pictures of him, but … Oliver is SO cute. I’m glad the surgery went well and that he’s recovering now. You must be really excited to pick him up today!

  3. Glad your doggie is good! Bella is definitely part of our family too :)

The changing the name thing can be annoying, but its over before you know! Definitely go to Social Security first, because you need it for the DMV (at least in FL). Luckily when I went I only had to wait 20 minutes or so.

  4. Glad the surgery went well! Love those photos of him–too cute!

  5. We had a Bichion Frise who died in 2004. He looked like your dog.
