Sweet ‘N Low Skinny Cocktails!…

Hi there!  Happy Friday to you!  YAY!  It’s Friday!  This week just flew by so fast.  I can’t get over how the week is already done.  I’m thankful that it’s done though and the weekend is here.  We are ONE week away from getting married!!!  At this time next week, I will either be sleeping or will be up because I’ll be too excited.  I’m hoping to be the first caller into the Elvis Duran Show next Friday to win a t-shirt.  If I want to be the first caller then it requires me calling in before 6am.  So I’m not sure if I’m going to get up that early or not but we shall wait and see.

Anyway, I have a fun post in store for you today and I hope you like it.  I have never been a very big fan of artificial sweeteners.  I do drink sugar-free and diet products.  I somehow don’t taste the sweetener in them.  I am not one to add them to my coffee.  I do experiment trying different artificial sweeteners and haven’t found one that I liked until I tried Sweet ‘N Low.

Sweet ‘N Low was started 55 years ago by Ben Eisenstadt and his son Marvin.  In 1957, they came up with the idea to create a sugar substitute.  The color pink was chosen that it would stand out from regular sugar.  The name Sweet ‘N Low came from Ben’s favorite song.

Did you know that Sweet ‘N Low has vintage private labels?  That means that big name celebrities, casinos, resorts and restaurants have their own special packets, including The President of the United States.  source  I like that Sweet ‘N Low was started by a family.  I had no idea that the company was founded that way.

Sweet ‘N Low contains Saccharin which is one of the oldest of approved low-calorie sweeteners.

Facts About Saccharin (source) :

  • Long history of safe use (over 100 years)
  • 300 to 500 times sweeter than sugar
  • Not metabolized by the body; non-caloric
  • Creates no glycemic response; won’t raise blood sugar
  • Non cariogenic
  • Oldest approved low-calorie sweetener
  • One of the most thoroughly tested food ingredients in the world with a very long human use experience without any reported ill effects
  • Closely associated with the “pink package,” Sweet’N Low

Melissa and I decided to come up with mocktails of my own.  You may add alcohol to these cocktails or keep them a mocktail.  It’s your choice.  First up is my favorite.

Skinny Lemonade Fizz

Ingredients:

Sugar-free lemonade mix

Club Soda or Diet Lemon-Lime Soda

1 packet of Sweet ‘N Low

Ice

Frozen fruit (any that you prefer)

Directions:

Make a pitcher of the sugar-free lemonade.  Add a few pieces of frozen fruit that has been thawed out to a martini shaker.  I used peaches and strawberries.  Add some ice.  Fill the martini shaker half way with the sugar-free lemonade.  Add equal parts club soda or diet lemon-lime soda.  Add 1 packet or 2 depending on taste of Sweet ‘N Low packet.  Shake and pour in a tall glass.  Garnish with a strawberry or whichever fruit you prefer.

I love this drink!  It’s light and refreshing and it would taste even better as a cocktail.  I really like it and definitely recommend making it.

The next mocktail we made was a frozen one.

This drink was great too!  I love the orange color.  It’s very refreshing for a summer night!

  1. Artificial sweetners and my belly just do not get along! Probably the aspertame…

    I do like cocktails though : )

  2. In less than a year I can enjoy a good cocktail – the fruity ones always sound so good.
