A Weekend Of Wine…

Hi there!  Happy Monday!  I hope all of you had a great weekend this first weekend of May!  What did you do this weekend?  I am so exhausted.  It seemed like the people living above us finally respected us and stopped walking on the squeaky part of their floor right above our bed for a while.  Now, it’s right back to where we started from.  I wasn’t able to sleep the entire weekend.  It was awful.  I get up every single day at 5am for work.  So on the weekends I would like to sleep past 9am or as late as I possibly can.  That is not an option where we live.  The people who live above us are just so disrespectful.  It’s really bad at night too.  Not everyone stays up until 11pm-12am during the work week.  It’s rude!  It just leaves me counting down the days until Mike and I can afford to buy a house of our own.  We renewed our lease at our current place for this year until June of 2013.  So we are hoping by that time, that we will be able to save enough money to buy a house.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for that one day.

So let’s get back to the weekend, shall we?  Friday after work, I was so exhausted and couldn’t wait to just relax.  Mike went out to dinner and to the movies with his brother, Ryan.  I decided that I wanted to spend time with Melissa.  So I brought over pasta, Earth Balance “butter”, spinach and turkey meatballs and my mom made dinner for me.  We relaxed for a while until Melissa and I got the urge to go to the supermarket.  We were craving ice cream and whipped cream.  I haven’t had ice cream in a very long time.  I was nervous about trying it again but I had my lactaid pills and we were good to go.  I had some chocolate peanut butter ice cream with whipped cream and decaf coffee.  I had a such a great night just spending time with my family.  My stomach wasn’t as happy from the ice cream as I was but it’s baby steps.  I will get there.  That is what I keep telling myself.

Saturday morning I was woken up with hearing squeaky floors above me.  Ugh!  Can I tell you how that is the worst sound ever?!  It truly is terrible.  All I wanted to do was sleep some more but that was definitely not happening.  So I got myself out of bed pissed off that I couldn’t sleep.  I finally got myself together and picked up Melissa and my mom.  We went to David’s Bridal.  We picked out a bunch of dresses for our mom to try on to wear to our wedding.  Melissa and I immediately got hooked on the first dress.  We kept going back to that one.  It was gorgeous!  It flattered our mother’s figure beautifully.  It was the “wow” dress that I had been envisioning in my head for my mom to wear.  Not to mention this dress was amazingly priced!  She got a great deal!  My mom is going to look beautiful in that dress!

Melissa ordered her maid of honor dress that she is also going to look beautiful in!  I love the dress that I picked out for the bridesmaids to wear.  It’s so flattering on everyone.  I decided to finally go ahead and order my shoes for my wedding day.  I had been putting it off because I was waiting until my dress came in but the consultant said the shoes are taking 6 to 8 weeks to come in.  So I had to place the order.  My wedding gown is scheduled to come in 2 weeks ahead of when they originally told me.  I hope that is true and I hope my shoes come in earlier than expected.  I have alterations scheduled for the end of June.  I just hope I have everything I need for the fitting.

After David’s Bridal, we started our winery tour!  We have been doing this for the past couple of years for Melissa’s birthday.  It’s so much fun!  We have gone to several wineries in PA already so we decided to try some in New Jersey.  It’s fun for a change in scenery!  We started by going to winery that was literally in the middle of nowhere.  We walked in and tried maybe 2 samples and they were terrible.  It was a strange environment and we couldn’t wait to leave.  Some wineries are creepy!  We stay away from those.

We went to the next winery which was nice!  The woman explained all of their wines and let us taste a bunch!  Our favorite was a cranberry wine.  It was delicious and really tasted like cranberries.  New Jersey is known for their cranberries so it’s no surprise a winery sells that type of wine.  It would be perfect with chicken or turkey for dinner.  The next winery we stopped at was beautiful!  It actually looked like a vineyard that you would see in Napa Valley!  The tasting was rather expensive and no one could really explain any of the wines to us so we passed on that one.  It was beautiful though and I think it would be nice to go back and enjoy a glass of wine while looking out at the vineyard.  I’ll have to go back with Melissa sometime in the summer. It was too beautiful to pass up!

The last winery we went to was our favorite!  We did a full tasting there and we got to keep the wine glass.  We all fell in love with a sparkling red wine.  It reminded Melissa and I of one of our favorite wines, Rosa Regale.  It was delicious and had the perfect amount of fizz!  I probably could have sat there and drank an entire bottle.  It was that good!  They have music in the summer and you can buy wine by the glass or bottle and drink while enjoying music.  I would definitely like to do that with Melissa sometime this summer. I think it would be the perfect way to relax.  Do you like wine?  What is your favorite kind of wine?

I had a lot of fun going to the different wineries with Melissa and my mom.  I cannot wait to continue the tradition next year.  It’s a lot of fun and makes for good memories.  I went back to their house for a little while and then I decided to go home and lay down.  I was so incredibly tired.  I relaxed for a little bit and Mike asked if I wanted Mexican food for dinner.  So I said sure even though I was exhausted.

The restaurant had such a long wait. We waited for an hour and a half to be seated.  I decided to eat whatever I felt like that night.  So I ordered my favorite burrito.

Chicken Burrito

When I was done eating, I kind of regretted what I just did.  My stomach started hurting me and I had some issues.  It was worth it though because I haven’t had Mexican food in such a long time.  We got home and watched a few shows on the DVR and then I completely passed out because of how tired I was.

I woke up on Sunday, again not being able to sleep and decided to make a spinach and vegan cheese omelet.

My breakfast

I got my coupons together and Mike and I went food shopping for the week.  I also picked up a few things at the craft store that I needed to get for our wedding.  I really need to start working on some DIY things that I am planning on doing.  I’m slacking.  The supermarket that we went to was having triple coupons! We were in luck.  It made for some great deals that I wasn’t expecting to get!

For dinner we decided to pick up a Domino’s pizza that I had a free coupon for.  I won a contest on Facebook to get a free Artisan pizza.  They didn’t have very many to choose from and all of them had things on it that I didn’t like.  So we finally settled on the sausage and pepper pizza.  Needless to say, I picked off the majority of everything on this pizza.

Free pizza

My stomach was killing me after, despite the fact that I had scraped the majority of that stuff off.  I guess I need to be more careful with pizza.  Blah!  At least it was free though.  There is nothing wrong with a free dinner.

So that pretty much sums up my weekend.  Now here we are back at another week.

Have a great Monday!

  1. Holy cow, there are a LOT of toppings on that pizza! I’m so sorry it upset your stomach, though :( I hope you’re feeling much better today!

    • Me too! :) I totally agree. I should have known. I thought if I scraped off the majority of the toppings that I would be alright. Not so much. I need to be more careful next time.
