A Change In Fast Food…

Hi there!  Happy Friday to you!  Today is going to be a very hectic and busy day for me!  I am working 4.5 hours today and then I need to run to the gastrointestinal doctor for my follow-up appointment. This appointment is very important because the doctor is going to decide the next plan of action with my Crohn’s Disease.  I am unable to continue staying on the medication that I have been on.  So we are going to see what happens next.  Then after that, I have to rush to another appointment.  I hope I will make it there on time.  Usually my doctor takes me on time or ahead of schedule so I should be okay.  Plus, my next appointment isn’t too far away.  It’s going to be a lot of running around.  At least I have off on Monday but that’s only because I have to go to another doctors appointment and that one is in the city.  There is no way I could go to work before or after the appointment.  It’s too much rushing around.

So what are you doing this weekend?  Any fun plans?  I have plans to see The Lucky Ones with Melissa.  I also would like to go honeymoon clothes shopping.  I’ve been saving my birthday gifts so that I have money to spend on honeymoon clothes.  Mike and I are going to start browsing rings because we are getting down to the wire and we both don’t have wedding bands.  He is going to be easy. It’s my ring that I am worried about.  I want one that is going to match my engagement ring band exactly and I don’t have a big budget to work with.  So we will see what we can do.  That is pretty much my weekend.  Low key and relaxing.  Just the way that I like it.

After work yesterday, I waited for my mom to get home so I could go over her house to pick something up that I needed.  As soon as I walked through the door, Oliver would not leave me alone.  He was going crazy!  It’s always nice to be around him though. I miss living with him a lot.  At least I get to see him multiple times throughout the week because he only lives around the corner from me.  So I hung out there for a little bit and then ventured home to start dinner.

Dinner was very random and strange last night.  I made pasta and tossed it in Earth Balance “butter” and made Chicken Apple Sausage and some garlic bread.  Very random.

My dinner

My stomach was not very happy with me last night. I think it was because of apple chicken sausage as well as the muffin I ate.  I think those muffins are bad for my stomach.  I think it has too many whole grains and too much fiber.  Sadly, I will have to say no more to the muffins.  I should just make some from scratch that doesn’t contain as much fiber.  I’d probably be able to handle that.  We watched Revenge and Grey’s Anatomy before calling it a night.

Moving on to something else, I noticed an interesting article this morning about how Burger King has decided to revamp their menu with more healthy options.  I’ve been seeing a lot of fast food chains doing this lately.  I think it’s something that needs to be done.  There needs to be healthy options for those who want to take advantage of it.  What do you think about fast food chains offering healthy options?  Good or bad?

The Huffington Post reviewed the new menu options from Burger King and I thought these were interesting and I wanted to share.

First new item up is the Chicken BLT Garden Salad (mixed greens are topped with tomatoes, red onions, three cheeses, and bacon — plus your choice of grilled or crispy chicken). Calories: 510 (with grilled chicken and dressing; add 180 for crispy chicken).  The grade it received from the article was a B.

Chicken Caesar Garden Salad (typical Caesar salad, croutons and salad dressing come in individual packets).  Calories: 510 (with grilled chicken and dressing; add 180 for crispy chicken).  Grade: B+

Chicken, Apple & Cranberry Garden Fresh Salad (mixed greens, tossed with sliced apples, dried cranberries, bleu cheese crumbles, and your choice of grilled or crispy chicken).  Calories: 520 (with grilled chicken and dressing; add 180 for crispy chicken).  Grade: A

Strawberry Banana Smoothie (Pre-cut strawberries and bananas are blended with yogurt).  Calories 310 (medium size)  Grade: A

Tropical Mango Smoothie Calories 330 (medium size).  Grade: B+

Ranch Crispy Chicken Wrap (crispy chicken strip inside a wrap, with lettuce, a pinch of a three-cheese blend, and tangy ranch dressing).  Calories 370.  Grade: B

Honey Mustard Crispy Chicken Wrap (same as previous wrap except with honey mustard dressing).  Calories 370.  Grade: B.

Homestyle Chicken Strips Calories 610 (five strips).  Grade: C.

Mocha Frappé (coffee drink topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup).  Calories 200 (medium).  Grade: B-

Caramel Frappé (same as above except with caramel added).  Calories 200 (medium).  Grade: B.

So those are the new items that Burger King is marketing.  Would you try any of them?  What do you think?  I think the honey mustard wrap sounds good as well as some of the salads.  I don’t know if I necessarily buy that these items are “healthy.”  They are step up for Burger King.  I have just never been a fan of Burger King.  I don’t remember the last time I actually stepped foot into one.  I thought this was interesting to share though.

Alright, have a great Friday!

  1. Good luck with the doctor’s appointment today. I hope all goes well and that the new plan of action has you feeling nothing but GREAT!

  2. I would try those options at BK. But the thing with offering healthy items at fast food places is that most people go there for the junk food anyway. I saw a documentary where a guy asked people if Mc Ds offered steamed broccoli, would you get it instead of fries? Almost everyone said no!

  3. Some of those BK things sounds pretty good. I’m not a fan of fast food, but sometimes, in a pinch, you have nowhere else to get to eat, so it’s good that fast food places are offering healthier options.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  4. We’ve started looking for wedding bands recently too! It’s so fun, but it kind of makes me antsy. I don’t know whether to get one now or to wait. I feel like if I get it now, I’ll just want to wear it already!

    • That is awesome! It is fun. :) I know what you mean. It’s going to be hard to just keep the ring the box and not wear it until your wedding day. Good luck finding a ring! :)
