Wedding Talk Wednesday: Rehearsal Dinner Booked & Room Block Info….

Hi there!  Happy Wednesday to you!  It’s already the middle of the week thank goodness!  I’m happy about that!  Closer to the weekend!  The weather outside is beautiful right now.  It’s bright and sunny and rather chilly.  It was perfect weather to drive to work in.  I was nice and warm in my car. I didn’t want to leave!  Sadly, I had to so I could get into the building at work.  I was so comfy though compared to what it feels like in my office.  It’s always freezing.

Anyway, I have some news regarding David’s Bridal.  I called the store where I had the issue from, and they assured me that they ordered me a new dress and it should be in at the latest by May 21st.  I’m hoping that it comes in way before then.  The last dress came in within 2 weeks of ordering it.  She said that when it arrives in the store, the manager is going to inspect it before calling me to say it’s in.  I just pray that this dress will be perfect because if it does come in on May 21st, we are going to be pushing it if I need to order another new dress.  Alterations need to start in June.  Speaking of which, I need to call the seamstress to make an appointment.  I decided that I am not bringing it to David’s Bridal.  They want to charge an arm and a leg.  I got a recommendation of a great seamstress from my friend/bridesmaid Courtney.  Her and her mom both used this woman for her wedding and said she was very reasonable and did a great job.  So I’m definitely planning on calling her.

I also emailed the customer service department explaining what happened and what I have been through.  I hope they will at least agree to pay for my wedding shoes seeing how they put me through hell and back and now I am without my wedding gown.  I will be sure to update on that issue.

So after work, I went over to a hotel down the street from our wedding venue to set up room blocks.  I had been speaking to this woman back and forth through email about room blocks and I wanted to see a room.  They are giving us two categories of rooms to put in a block.  They are going to put aside 10 rooms for us.  Now I don’t see us using that many or any at all.  I wanted to make sure that our guests had the option if they wanted to stay over.  I have a few people coming a long distance as does Mike.  So I wanted to make sure they were prepared if they were spending the night.

The best thing about this hotel is the rate.  They are charging $119 a night which is not bad for the area where it is located.  It is within walking distance of restaurants and shops.  They also provide free breakfast which I thought was a nice perk.  The rooms are huge and even have mini kitchens in them.  The hotel is giving Mike and I a free room.  We are most likely not going to take advantage of it on our wedding night because of our honeymoon.  I will go into more details of that once everything is finalized.  So Mike and his groomsman are going to use our complimentary room to get ready in the day of our wedding.

The room is huge so Mike will be able to spread out and hang out with his groomsman and relax.  Our photographer will have plenty of room to do getting ready pictures.  Plus, we are saving money because we don’t have to pay!  That is the best part.  I’m hoping some people take advantage of the room blocks.  I’d rather them stay over if they are going to drink.  It doesn’t cost us anything to set up the blocks which is nice and they set up a website for us so our guests can make reservations on.  What do you think of room blocks?  Do you seem them as being necessary?

After checking out the hotel, I drove to Mike’s work to meet him so we could go to our rehearsal dinner location.  We met with the manager and sorted out some details and then had dinner to try the food before giving a deposit.  We really like the restaurant.  It has the perfect vibe that we were going.  We are going to have a private room so that will be nice. This is a picture of the restaurant, to give you an idea.

I will be able to do something during our rehearsal that I was thinking of doing at our wedding but decided against.  So I’m glad about that.  They have a ton of craft beers which I love.  Hopefully I will be able to enjoy one.  We are not doing an open bar.  We are doing a cash bar.  It gets to be too expensive and I don’t find it necessary especially since we are having a top shelf open bar the next night at our wedding.  It’s just an added expense that we don’t have right now.  I don’t think our guests will mind.  No one is a huge drinker.

The dinner will be plated.  The best part is that they are willing to work with us about dietary restrictions and health restrictions.  I really like that.  The meal will be served with a choice of 2 types of salads and then they will provide dessert after the meal.  I’m just glad that it’s going to be laid back and relaxed. It will be perfect for the night before our wedding and I don’t really need to do much decorations wise.  I’m leaving all of that up to our wedding.  This is just going to be easy-going.  What would be your ideal rehearsal dinner?  Did you do anything special during yours or will you do something special at yours?

I had my ideal rehearsal dinner picked out when we were supposed to get married in Disney World.  I wanted it to be a Hawaiian theme and have it one of the restaurants in the Polynesian Resort.  I was thinking Ohana.  I still would have liked a Hawaiian themed party because I think it would be fun but sadly it wouldn’t work for us.  The one restaurant that could be considered Hawaiian themed is a tad far from our venue.  So we are sticking with our original idea.

Alright, well that is enough for one Wedding Talk Wednesday!  Hopefully next week, I will be able to discuss our Honeymoon.  Our original plans have changed.  These are much better!

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I’m glad you were able to speak with someone at David’s Bridal to assure that your dress really IS coming and that it’ll actually be inspected this time. They should definitely give you some kind of compensation for all this aggravation. Stress is the last thing you need right now! Also – I second your decision about not using a seamstress from there. Obviously it’s a different location, but I had a nightmare when I got my prom dress from DB back in high school. They altered it completely wrong – as in, the hem was uneven by two inches and they cut the straps off the dress when I asked for them to be made thicker. That was a fun experience :P

Yay for everything going well with the hotel and restaurant!

    • Thank you! Me too! I totally agree with you. I haven’t heard back from corporate yet. OMG!!!! Are you kidding me??!!? That is crazy!!! What did you do? Could you still wear the dress?

  2. I’d love to copy my sister’s rehearsal dinner. They had the whole upstairs of the Dogfish Head Brewpub in Rehoboth booked. It was awesome. And delicious.

  3. I think the room blocks are a great idea. It stinks having to decide who will get to drink at a party and this way your guests will be able to enjoy themselves and not worry.

I’m not sure what I’d want to do for my rehersal dinner. I definitely want a private area and I’d love to do sushi since Tommy and I are sushi obsessed, but that probably wouldn’t fly with all our guests.

  4. Definitely do room blocks! Much easier for your guests and you. My bro in law is getting married in 2 weeks and doesn’t have a block…it’s making everyone crazy! Everyone is trying to figure out where they are gonna stay, and wants to be close to family and friends. Not good!
