A Weekend Of Wedding…

Hi there!  Happy Monday!  I can hardly believe that it is Monday already.  I feel like I didn’t have a weekend at all and that it flew right by me.  Mike and I did so much this weekend and I think it was a little too much for me.  I am so exhausted today.  I could barely peel myself out of bed.  I am so sleepy.  I hope I can manage to stay awake throughout the day.  How was your weekend?  What did you do?  It was freezing all weekend!  I think I was beyond the point of cold the entire weekend.  It was cold and rainy.  Not a very pretty weekend in my opinion at all.  I’m still freezing today even though it’s supposed to go up to 60 degrees.  I have yet to retire my uggs.  I will stop wearing them once the temperature is consistently 60′s to 70′s.  Until then I am going to keep living in my uggs.  I love them.

So let’s catch up from the weekend.  On Friday, I went to a local bar near Mike’s work with some of his co-workers who will be attending our wedding for a happy hour.  I don’t know how much of a happy hour it was for me, sitting there sipping unsweetened iced tea.  It was nice to see his co-workers.  I like them and they make me feel comfortable.  So that is a good thing.  We stayed there for a while and then decided to go home.  I wasn’t feeling all that great.  I kind of put my stomach through hell that morning with what I ate.  I knew what I was doing but I wanted it anyway.  We decided to do something quick for dinner.  So we went to our favorite Chinese place.  I had some Wonton Soup and Chicken Lo Mein.  I have pictures of my lo mein later in the post.  I just love Chinese food especially from this place.  Their food is so good and it’s always crowded in there.

Once we got home, we did some final ideas for our wedding that we needed to bring with us to the venue the next day.  The best part of this planning is that Mike and I are very much in agreement for everything.  So that makes planning for me much easier.  On Saturday, we woke up early and got ourselves ready to go to our wedding venue.  I had so much stuff with me.  I had my HUGE wedding planning binder filled to the brim.  I brought my laptop, in case I needed it to explain things and I brought with a bag filled with chair cover samples so I could try them on the chair and see which ones fit to purchase.  It was a lot of stuff.

I am not too much of a fan of the coordinator at the venue.  She doesn’t let you speak.  She talks over you and tries to push her ideas on you.  Honey, I’ve had our entire wedding, ever single detail, every color, everything planned out for months and months now. I know what I’m doing.  Let me speak and show you what we are doing.  Don’t tell me what we are doing.  It’s our wedding!  It was frustrating.  I think she finally realized that I knew what I was talking about when I mentioned that I am a certified wedding planner.  I think that might have threatened her but it was something that she should know.  It’s just so irritating.  I have an entire vision and every single little detail planned out.  Just let us do what we want.  It’s OUR day.  It’s our vision.  Let us be!  GRRR!!!  That was the most frustrating thing about it.

For one aspect of the day, she is not allowing me to do what I want and it’s making me angry.  So I’m going to do it all myself.  It’s more work and might be more money for me but I want this thing a certain way and I don’t know why she can’t do it that way.  I don’t want to give away what I am talking about because it’s going to be a surprise for our guests and has to do with the favors as well.  She is irritating me.  So rather than be unhappy and not have what we want, I’m going to do it all myself.  Fingers crossed I can do it.

We did make a lot of progress though.  We picked out our menu, the linens, fit the chair covers, went over timing, told her about our vendors, etc.  It was a lot that was accomplished and I’m happy with our choices.  After meeting with her, we met with our florist which was much less stressful.  I absolutely love the florist.  She completely got my vision.  I had pictures for her and everything.  The flowers are going to be beautiful, I’m sure!  I’m glad that she let us do what we wanted and helped me along because I don’t know much about particular flowers.  I’m more focused on the colors and what I like and don’t like.  She was very helpful.  So I have great confidence that our flowers are going to beautiful and will create the vision and mood that I am trying to get across.  She definitely put me at ease.

Once we were done at the venue, Mike I were in wedding overload but our wedding details were not done.  We quickly grabbed lunch and then went to the hotel down the road to sort out the room blocks.  The manager was not there for us to speak with but we did get some details and I should hear from him today.  That seems like it’s going to work out great as well.

Then we went to 3 different restaurants to see about our rehearsal dinner.  We absolutely fell in love with our first choice.  I was hoping that this restaurant was going to be good.  The room is perfect.  The food sounds great.  It’s in our price range.  It’s going to be exactly what we want.  I need to set up an appointment now for us to try the food and then we will book the place as long as the food is good.  I’m happy about that!  We are definitely checking things off my to-do list.

Once wedding things were settled, we went home and relaxed for a while.  We both didn’t feel like cooking so we went to Ruby Tuesday.  I decided to order the spaghetti squash.  I asked for a lemon butter sauce instead of the marinara because my stomach is having a hard time processing tomatoes and tomato sauce.

Unfortunately tomatoes and zucchini were sprinkled on top which I also cannot eat right now, so I handed them off to Mike.  This was delicious!!!  The squash was cooked perfectly and the sauce was yummy.  It caused some discomfort for my stomach but I battled through it.  After we were done eating, we met up with Courtney (bridesmaid), and Ian since we haven’t seen them in a while.  I sipped my Shirley Temple and had a nice time talking and catching up.

On Sunday, we woke up early again to go to our wedding venue again for day two.  When I woke up, I felt so sick that I couldn’t get out of bed.  It was awful.  My stomach was not a happy camper.  I felt emotionally and physically drained.  We ended up getting to the venue 10 minutes late.  Had to deal with the sales coordinator again who gave us a nasty attitude.  She is getting on both of our last nerves, seriously!  We finally were able to meet with the bakery.  Our baker was super nice!  We both knew exactly what we wanted for our cake.  I had a picture and everything.  So it made our consultation very quick.  I picked this specific cake because once you see my dress and the cake, you will understand why.  ;)

I am very excited for it.  He got my vision 100%!  It’s going to look beautiful!  It will be 4 tiers and each tier is going to be a different flavor.  The flavors we picked are so Mike and I!  Everyone is going to love them!  I cannot wait to share after our wedding.  I also have a surprise for Mike but I can’t discuss that here because he reads my blog.  So you will have to see that after our wedding as well.  He sent us home with some cake samples too!

Can I just tell you, his chocolate peanut butter cake with peanut butter frosting was to die for!!!  To die for!  It is excellent!!  I am happy and can imagine that our cake will be beautiful!

Afterwards, we went food shopping and spent the rest of the afternoon at home.  I should have taken a nap because I was so drained.  I just hope that everything comes together with our wedding and that sales coordinator won’t ruin everything that I have worked so hard for.  I will not let her!  Thankfully, I will be getting ready with all of the bridesmaids in the bridal suite that morning/afternoon so I will be able to keep checking on every little detail.  You better believe that I will do that.  Everything needs to go as planned.

We decided to have our Chinese food leftovers.

We relaxed the rest of the night and then finally went to bed.  That was a lot!  It was a crazy weekend and I’m just glad that it’s over.  I’m ready for a more relaxing week and weekend, I hope.

Have a good Monday!

  1. Leftover Chinese is the best. And that PB chocolate cake sounds AMAZING. I want! :)

  2. Oh no, I’m sorry the coordinator’s giving you such trouble. I wonder if it’s the same one who worked with my friends on their wedding a few years ago. I don’t remember her being difficult, but I wasn’t there for the meetings, just the open houses and things like that. In any case, I hope she stops soon and realizes that not only do you know what you’re doing, but you SHOULD have control since it’s your wedding! I’m glad things went better with the restaurants, though. Which one did you end up choosing?

And oh my gosh, those cake samples look SO GOOD!

    • I will definitely write you back about all of this. It’s just ridiculous! I have never seen someone behave in this way and be so incredibly unprofessional! It’s ridiculous. I don’t know how she has a job there.

They were very good :) I was glad about that.

  3. I’m sorry the coordinator is giving you guys trouble. It’s her job to make sure you’re happy on your wedding day! Don’t give in, it’s your day and you deserve everything you want!

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake sound amazing! I can’t wait to see everything come together on your wedding day! :)

    • It’s okay. You are 100% right! That is why I made sure to stand my ground in an email I wrote her and correct every single thing that she wrote incorrectly on our form. It’s so frustrating! I just want everything to be perfect.

It was delicious! :) Aw, thank you! I really hope everything does come together. I’m incredibly nervous.
