Beginning of February Favorites…

Good Morning!  Happy Friday!  I don’t know about you but this week literally seemed to drag on forever!  I’m glad that it’s finally Friday and that the weekend is near.  Not that I have any plans for this weekend but it will be nice to relax and try to catch up on sleep a bit.  What are you doing this weekend?  Are you watching the Superbowl?  I’m sure I will be watching parts of the Superbowl.  The only parts that I enjoy are the commercials and the half-time show.  I don’t really care for watching football all that much. 

So yesterday when I got home from work, I relaxed for a little while before starting dinner.   I wasn’t feeling that great with my stomach.  I decided to make pasta with melted Earth Balance butter on it.  I also made some dinner rolls to go with it.

I wasn’t feeling well the rest of the night.  I’m not exactly sure why.  I didn’t use whole wheat pasta or anything like that.  I don’t know why it didn’t agree with my stomach.  I was planning on bringing some leftovers for lunch but I decided aganist that and went with what I have been bringing the past couple of days.  I’ve been bringing deli turkey on white bread.  That seems to be alright with my stomach.  So I just went back to that. I think I will stay away from pasta until this flare up has gone.  That makes me sad because pasta is one of my favorites.
 
So I wanted to talk about a few of my February favorites so far.  Since my stomach is all kinds of crazy right now, I haven’t been experimenting with too many new products but there are a few that I have come to like this month so far.
 
Silk Almond Milk
 
 
Now there are several brands that make their own Almond milk, however I have only tried the Silk Almond Milk so I am going to talk specifically about this one.  I have mentioned this several times and I am going to say it again, I’m lactose intolerant.  So I usually stick with either Lactaid milk or Soy milk.  I have become sick of how soy milk tastes so I stay away from that.  Since the issues with my stomach I have decided to try an alternative milk, almond.  I have to say that I really like the flavor and consistency of it.  I hate milk to begin with so you will never see me drink a glass of it.  This I like though.  I could possibly see myself drinking a glass of the chocolate almond milk in the future.  Do you like milk?  What kind do you usually buy? 
 
Dole Mandarian Oranges
 
 
I picked up Dole Mandarin Oranges at the supermarket last week when I was trying to figure out what I could buy that wouldn’t bother my stomach.  It was on sale and I had a coupon.  I love it!  I have always been a fan of mandarin oranges.  I love that it’s in 100% fruit juice and contains no artificial sweetners.  They have 80 calories, no fat and 45 percent of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C. It makes for a great snack.
 
Dole Diced Apples
 
 
I picked up the Dole Diced Apples last week as well when I bought the mandarin oranges.  These too are in 100% fruit juice and contain no artificial sweetners.  They have 80 calories, no fat and 45 percent of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C.  A fun fact about these are: Dole Fruit Bowls Diced Apples in 100% Juice were awarded the 2011 ChefsBest Award for Best Taste.  They really do taste great!
 
Orville Redenbacher’s Natural Popcorn in Lime + Salt 
 
This Lime + Salt popcorn was on sale at the supermarket as well.  I couldn’t pass these up especially since they are made with whole-grains!  I haven’t tried them yet because I don’t know how my stomach would react but once I’m feeling okay, I am definitely digging into these!  I love that they are natural and are flavored with lime and salt.  Those are the best seasonings on chips so I can only imagine how it tastes in popcorn form!
 
Earth Balance Butter
 
 
Earth Balance “butter” has become one of my favorite products lately.  It’s amazing to me how I can enjoy butter without taking my lactaid pills.  It’s because this butter is vegan and dairy free.  It melts just like regular butter and you can use it the same you would any other butter.  I wish it was more reasonably priced but other than that, I love it!
 
Cellentani Pasta 
 
 
I love this pasta that Barilla makes!  This is the shape that I used last night.  It’s so fun!  I have used this shape several times in the past.  I like it because the pasta coats all of the parts of this pasta. I wish restaurants used it.  It’s definitely my favorite.  What is your favorite type of pasta?

  1. It could just be the time of day. Night time was always worst for me because after a days worth of eating your stomach is busy. Along those lines, mornings were always my best time because my stomach was empty, so that was when I got a lot of errands done. Maybe eat dinner earlier, like no later than 630, so that things get moving and you can go to bed and rest easily!

  2. Ooo girl, I hate to tell you, but that popcorn is going to KILL your stomach! It is very hard to digest, so I would advise you against eating it- just a heads up. I know you are still trying to figure out what works for you with the Crohn’s, but popcorn always kills me…even thought I love it.

    • I haven’t tried the popcorn yet but I’m saving it until hopefully this flare up goes away and I can eat somewhat normal again. I am going to miss popcorn. I really like it ;)

  3. That’s one of my favorite shaped pastas as well! I LOVE milk but I exclusively drink Silk Soymilk – so rich and creamy!

  4. I’m not a football fan at ALL, but Kelly’s singing the national anthem for the Super Bowl, so I’ll be sure to tune in for that part :)
