A Look At Some January Favorites…

Good Morning!  Happy Tuesday!  I hope those of you who had off yesterday enjoyed your long weekend!  Back to work now.  I worked yesterday so it’s just another day of work for me.  I ended up leaving work a little bit early yesterday because I had an appointment with the surgeon.  Mike went with me to my appointment and the surgeon was actually nice this time.  The last time I saw him he had somewhat of an attitude or something.  Maybe he was just in a bad mood.  I don’t know.

Anyway, he went over the results of the catscan that the GI doctor ordered for me.  He said that the test was completely pointless!  That made me extremely angry at my GI doctor.  Not only did I waste 2 copays.  One going to see her in her office and one for the catscan and not to mention drinking the awful contrast.  I was beyond the point of pissed.  He said the catscan came back normal.  He was pressing on my stomach and he said he truly believes that my pain is from my colon.  That is what I have been saying all along as well as him.  So I got exposed to radiation once again for nothing!

He said he does not approve a full colonoscopy to be done yet because I am not completely healed from surgery but there is a mini one that they are able to do to still view the colon.  I already have IBS.  I was diagnosed with that when I was 4 years old.  He thinks that my pain is related to IBS and that I could possibly also have IBD.  So he wants me to get a colonoscopy done.  He said the lump in my belly button is normal.  It’s from the laparoscopic surgery.  It should go down within a couple of months.  So that is a good thing.

Earlier on in the day yesterday, I had done some research on GI doctors.  I am going to see another GI doctor on Monday.  This doctor is supposed to be a good one.  I’m hoping that this doctor can get to the root of my problem and figure out what is causing all of this pain.  I’m sorry that I keep talking about this all the time.  It’s very frustrating to me and stressful.  I need a place to discuss how I am feeling and that is why I choose to write about it here.  I’m just hoping to get some answers and hopefully medication or something that will make me feel better.

After my appointment, Mike and I had leftover rotisserre chicken and we roasted green beans and had sweet potato fries.

My dinner plate

The rest of the night, we spent watching Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars!  Both were very good and I was highly entertained.
So let’s get to some of my January favorites right now.  I haven’t been drinking that much coffee lately.  I’ve been occasionally having a cup of coffee but sticking more to tea because it gentle on my stomach.  Last week, when Melissa and I went to the mall, we stopped at the tea store and sampled some tea.  The one that I loved was orange flavored.  I checked to see how much it was and it was $15!!  I don’t know about you but I don’t have that kind of money to spend on tea.  So we were determined to find a cheaper tea that tastes similar and that we did!

Delicious tea!

We found Mandarin Orange Spice tea from Celestial Seasonings.  I’m not kidding when I tell you, this tea tastes EXACTLY like the tea from the expensive tea store.  I was impressed!  Plus, it was on sale and I had a coupon.  So I think I ended up paying under .99 cents for the tea!  That is well worth it as a opposed to $15!
Another favorite of mine right now is my new cell phone!  I recently got rid of my Droid and got the new iPhone 4S from Verizon.

It’s a world of difference having a phone that actually works!  Now I’m able to use apps!  Before on my old phone, I couldn’t download anything new.  If I used an app my phone would die.  It was awful.  This is a great phone.  I’m an Apple fan.  I have a Macbook that I absolutely love and I’m probably one of the few people who never owned an iPod.  Well now I have one on my phone!  So cool.  Any apps that I should download for the iPhone?
This next favorite is one that I have posted before but I just recently bought again because it was on sale and I had a coupon.  I love Goldfish Sandwich Bread

This bread is the perfect size for a sandwich and I love the fact that it’s shaped like a Goldfish.  Sure, I get a few stairs when I go to microwave my Veggie Masala burger on it at work.  Do I care?  No!  It tastes great and it’s fun to look at!
I’ve been loving potatoes lately.  I don’t know why.  Maybe because it’s gentle on my stomach?  I’m not sure.  Either way, Mike and I have become obsessed with Alexia potato products.

Sweet Potato fries!

These sweet potato fries are great!  I love just seasoning them with some garlic salt, pepper and paprika.  They are healthy and taste delicious!  I also like their sweet potato waffle fries.  Those are really good too.  If you go to Target this week, you can print a $1 off coupon from Target’s website and do a google search for a $1 off Alexia product coupon.  It’s on sale this week and it makes for an awesome deal!  You essentiallly get $2 off making it, I can’t remember the price exactly but I believe it’s under a $1!  Not bad if you ask me!
So those are some things that I have been loving this month so far!  Now it’s your turn.  What is something that you have really been loving this month?  It doesn’t have to be food related.  It can be anything.
Have a great Tuesday!
PS. Today is exactly 7 months until our wedding!

  1. Just came across your blog. My mom has IBS and IBD (Crohn’s) and she takes this stuff called Heather’s Tummy Fiber or something like that. It’s supposed to be gentler than other fibers. Anyways, just thought I’d share that with you. :)

  2. Oh boy … you went through all that for NOTHING? That is just horrible. I’m glad the catscan came back normal, but it is so terrible that you were told to have one when you didn’t need it. I truly hope that things go much better with the second GI doctor. Sometimes it makes all the difference and my fingers are crossed that this will finally help you feel better.

Also – enjoy the new phone! Everyone I know who has an iPhone absolutely loves it. Mac question: what size screen is on your laptop? I’m trying to decide which route to go with buying a new computer.

    • Yeah, seriously! I was so annoyed! I hope so too. I just want to find a good doctor that knows what they are doing and can diagnose and treat me. It’s frustrating and expensive already. I keep going back and forth to doctors and getting tests done and paying co-pays. It’s a lot to handle.

Thank you! I do love it so far! :) Hmm..mine is not the white macbook, it’s the step above the white one. It is silver and has black keys. I want to say it’s the 13 or 15 inch. I can’t remember. It’s definitely not the most expensive one. It’s only a step above the white one.

      Thank you! :)

  3. I hate when doctor’s send you on a wild goose chase of unnecessary tests. Co-pays aren’t cheap and neither is your time! I hope the new GI doctor can help you out!

I buy the Goldfish sandwich thins for Alex. He’s a huge goldfish fan and loves thins too!

I’m jealous that you have the 4S! I’m still on the iPhone 4, but I’m waiting until the 5 to upgrade. I take all my food pictures with my phone camera and there are some great apps like Big Lens and Camera + to edit/take better pics. I’m also obsessed with Words With Friends so if you download it find me! :)

    • I completely agree with you! I was so annoyed and irritated that I wasted time and money! It isn’t right.

Aw! That’s cute! I love them. I tthink they are cute :)

That is awesome! I will download Big Lens and Camera. I downloaded Words with Friends but I haven’t played it yet. I will definitely look for you!! :)

  4. Definitely download instagram!! You’ll love it for sure.
I love alexia’s sweet potato fries/tots too! They are amazing. :)

  5. UGH so frustrating! We need to get you a doctor who isn’t completely useless! But at least everything seems ok right now. I had a feeling a colonoscopy was going to happen….it REALLY sucks (the prep at least), but at least there will be answers!

    • I completely agree! That practice that I went to was a joke! The doctor has no clue what she is doing. I agree. I’m not looking forward to any of it but if they can figure out what is going on and get me treated, I’m willing to do it.
