A Trip To The Anderson Show!…

Good Morning!  Happy Tuesday!  I apologize for not posting yesterday but Melissa and I didn’t get back from New York until the evening and by that time I was way too exhausted to do anything.  It was absolutely freezing yesterday!  Not the most ideal day to travel to NYC but we had fun despite the cold temperatures.  Before I get to our New York experience, I’m going to discuss dinner from Sunday since I never did that.

For dinner on Sunday, Mike and I bought one of our favorite soups!

Bertolli Meal Soup Tomato Florentine

This meal soup is our absolute favorite!  Although this soup already has spinach in it, I added some extra to amp up the soup a bit and it worked out perfectly.

Soup!

Look how delicious

I think once we own a blender or an immersion blender, I will be making soups like this homemade.  I think it wouldn’t be that difficult to make plus it would be healthier knowing that I made it myself.  There is nothing like a bowl of soup to warm you up on a freezing night!

So that was Sunday!  I woke up at the same time that I normally wake up for work yesterday.  I was up by 5am.  I picked Melissa up around 6:15 and then we stopped at Starbucks for coffee on the way.  Melissa had two coupons for free coffee so we were both able to get Venti’s!  That really helped us warm up while sitting on the train.  We caught an express train to New York City.  We were surrounded by people on their way to work.  I don’t think I would ever be able to commute back and forth to NYC everyday.  It’s entirely too much traveling.

Mike worked in New York right after we graduated college for about 6 months until he couldn’t take it anymore. I give him a lot of credit because I can’t stand that commute.  The train was packed!  Melissa and I got swashed in a 4 seater with two random women sitting directly across from us.  We couldn’t wait to get out of the train.  Before we knew it, we finally arrived in the city.  It was so cold and we managed to hail a cab right away!  The first part of our Anderson show adventure took us to a movie theater near Lincoln Center.  Melissa and I had been around Lincoln Center a long time ago but I couldn’t get over how nice that part of the city was.  It wasn’t nearly as crowded as other parts of New York and I liked that.

I got really excited when we drove past the Empire Hotel.  Any Gossip Girl fans out there?!  I kept picturing Chuck Bass standing outside the front of the hotel.  For those of you who aren’t Gossip Girl fans, the show is filmed there and the Empire Hotel is a main part of the show.  Chuck Bass is a character and he owns the Empire.

We arrived at the movie theater a little earlier than expected.  We were going to see an advance screening of the movie, “We Bought A Zoo.”

When the majority of our fellow Anderson audience members arrived, we were finally taken back to the theater.  Melissa and I ended up getting perfect seats in the theater.  I actually really enjoyed the movie.  It’s based on a true story.  It kept my attention the entire time and I found myself really enjoying the storyline.  It touched my heart.  I would recommend seeing it.  It’s definitely a good family film.

After the movie, we walked 8 blocks to the set of Anderson but not before passing a celebrity on the street!  Melissa and I noticed a film crew filming something and we looked over and we saw Julie Chen!!!!  I am a huge Big Brother fan and she is the host.  I completely forgot to pull my camera out the entire time we were in NYC!  So I have no pictures.  But we saw her big hair and were pretty close to her!  I thought that was awesome!

We finally arrived at the Time Warner building where the show Anderson is filmed.

We had both never been in there before!  It looked like a mall inside.

We were not allowed to take any pictures during the taping at all.  I was a little disappointed.  I thought maybe during commercial breaks we would be allowed but no such chance.  I did manage to find some pictures of what the studio looks like inside.

As you can see from all of the windows, the studio has a spectacular view of Columbus Circle!  It was breathtaking!  Melissa and I got REALLY good seats!  I think we will be seen on camera a lot.  Anderson came over and stood right next to us for a lot of the show.  He is just as nice in person as he seems on tv!

The guests on the show were the cast of We Bought A Zoo, including Matt Damon, and Scarlett Johanson.  Matt Damon was awesome and seems super nice!  Scarlett on the other hand, I have never been a fan of hers and seeing her just reconfirmed everything that I thought about her in the first place.  If you are interested in watching the episode that we saw, check it out next Wednesday!  I’m excited. I hope I end up seeing us!

It was such an awesome experience and I couldn’t have had a better time with Melissa!  I am so glad that she was able to see Anderson Cooper in person because she is such a big fan.  Not to mention she has loved Matt Damon the majority of her life so seeing him in person was surreal for her too.  I’m glad I was there to take in those moments with her.  We had such a good time!

Have you ever been a taping of a tv show or talk show before?  My senior year of college, my broadcasting professor took us to a taping of the show, “Hope and Faith.”  That was such an awesome experience!  Best live tv show experience I ever had.  Melissa and I also went to a taping of “Paula’s Party,” featuring Paula Deen when she had an hour-long cooking show filmed in front of a live audience with special celebrity guests. That was awesome too!

After our long day, I arrived home to Mike preparing dinner for us.  He decided to cook us Turkey Sausages that we bought at the store the other day.

Beautiful salad he made

I actually really liked it!  It was a fun surprise to have cheese in the center!  Haha!  I was glad that I didn’t have to cook.  I was so tired and ended up going to sleep around 9:30pm.  Now here I am back at work.  I’m hoping the rest of the week goes by quickly!  Happy Tuesday!  Have a good one!

  1. How fun!!! I’ve always wanted to go to a show taping but no luck. I think next time I go to NYC, I need to look that stuff up in advance.

    • You definitely should! It’s so easy! My sister just went onto Anderson’s website and requested tickets for a certain day and then they emailed her back to confirm. It’s worth it to experience it at least once :)

  2. that’s so fun! Going to a live taping of a talk show (or SNL) is on my bucket list.

  3. What a fun day! I LOVE Time Warner Center. I’ve been to book signings at the Borders that used to be there, and one of my favorite things is to take the escalator up to the top floor and look out at the view over Columbus Circle. It’s beautiful! It looks like you had an amazing view from Anderson’s studio, too. What a cool experience it must have been to watch them film the show. Did the set look way smaller than it does on tv? I remember that from all the news studios I’ve seen, how small they look in person.

So glad you had a great time :D

    • That is awesome! I had never been in the Time Warner Center before and it was pretty cool! We didn’t get to walk around much because we were both tired and wanted to beat the rush hour traffic to get home. The set was actually pretty big. I was shocked. I thought it would have been a lot smaller but it was a big size. It did have an amazing view!

      Thanks, Shari! :)

  4. You always do such fun things with Mike and/or Melissa. They are memories that you will talk about in years to come. And just think, you have so many more years left to make more memories. :)

    • Aw, thank you Jane! :) I couldn’t agree more. I think the most important thing is to make memories with those people that you love. The memories will last forever. :) I miss you!!

  5. I’ve never been to a live taping of something. Unless you count QVC, like, a million years ago – and I really, really don’t. Ha.

    • Haha! I think that counts! I used to go to tapings at QVC all the time! I was obsessed. I would watch the channel like crazy. I’ve never bought anything though. I just really liked watching plus the tapings were pretty fun :)
