Good Morning! I can hardly believe that it’s Monday already. This weekend flew by so quick! I apologize for not updating at all this weekend. I just wasn’t feeling like blogging much over the weekend. I was celebrating Mike’s birthday with him and also trying to find a part-time job. Since overtime was cut at my job, it’s been very hard to get by lately. I really need a part-time job to supplement my income. The place I was hoping to get a job at isn’t hiring. So that was rough. I’m still searching though. I hope I get something by the end of this week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
How was your weekend? What did you do? I’ll get you caught up on mine. It took me 2 and half hours to get home from work on Friday! I couldn’t believe it. There was an overturned tractor-trailer on the turnpike which backed everything up for miles. I had to end up getting off the turnpike and going a bunch of different out-of-the-way backroads to try to get home. It was awful! Everywhere I turned there was more and more traffic. Such an awful commute.
When I got home, I got ready to go out with Mike, his parents and Ryan to celebrate his birthday. We ended up going to a local italian restaurant.
Me and the birthday boy!
For my meal, I ended up ordering pasta Primavera with their vodka sauce. I am a big fan of their vodka sauce at this restaurant.
My dinner was massively huge! Of course I brought the rest of it home with me. I was so stuffed after eating not even part of that! After dinner, we went back to our house because I had bought a cake for Mike from our favorite local bakery. This place makes incredible cakes!
Mike's birthday cake!
Another view of the cake
I lit the candles for Mike to blow out
The cake was one layer vanilla, then chocolate mousse filling, and then the top layer was chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream
They did such a good job with his birthday cake! It tasted incredible. I really love the cakes at that bakery. The best part is when you walk into the bakery, the smell of cakes and buttercream immediately hit your nose! It’s so delicious and one of the best smells in the world! What is your favorite kind of cake?
After enjoying Mike’s birthday cake, his family went home and we just relaxed and watched tv together for a little while. I was happy that I was able to spend Mike’s birthday with him. I think he had a good birthday.
Saturday morning, I woke up early to bring my car in for service. I needed an oil change and luckily, I didn’t have to pay for it! They give out this tag and they punch a hole in it every time you bring your car in for an oil change. I had enough punches for a free oil change this time. Score! One less thing to pay for is always a good thing!
After the oil change, I went home for a little while and then I went with Mike to watch him and his Aunt play in their tennis match. I like watching Mike play tennis. He is so passionate about playing and you can truly tell just by watching him. I’ve gone to a lot of his matches and some of his matches when we were in college. It’s fun to watch him play. It’s interesting to see the dynamic between him and his aunt when he is playing too. He ended up losing the match but it wasn’t his fault at all. He played great! Plus, it was his first match of the season. So he will end up winning next time, I’m sure.
Melissa had given us a gift card to use for the Macaroni Gr
ill and I had printed out a $5 off coupon. So we ventured there for my birthday celebration with Mike. We ended up waiting like 20 minutes to be seated. It was packed there!

We decided to start off with 2 tapas plates that they added to the menu. The first plate was a shrimp, white bean and avocado crostini.
Our second tapas plate was, fried mac and cheese balls. These were incredible and by far the best part of the meal! The crostini was really good too.
Fried Mac and Cheese
I wasn’t sure what to order for dinner. I knew that I didn’t want pasta since we had it the night before. So I went with Grilled Chicken Spedini. The description on the menu said grilled chicken with roasted vegetables. So I’m thinking that it’s a piece of grilled chicken under a bed of roasted vegetables. Well, I was wrong. This is how it was served to me.
My dinner plate
Are you kidding me?! The chicken was on skewers and parts of it didn’t even seem cooked so I picked at it. The roasted vegetables were mostly onions. I found 3 potatoes, a slice of eggplant and that was about it! Some vegetables right? I don’t know about you but I am not a huge fan of eating onions plain. It was so disappointing! To think that my meal cost $10! Ridiculous!
Needless to say, I don’t think we will be going back to the Macaroni Grill anytime soon! What a disappointment. GR! I hate when that happens. I just don’t think I am a fan of that restaurant group. They own On The Border, Chili’s, Maggiano’s and Macaroni Grill. I hate On The Border and I dislike Chili’s. I can’t even remember the last time I went to Maggiano’s because there isn’t one near us. I think we will be staying away from tha group of restaurants.
After dinner, we went home and had birthday cake and caught up on the dvr. I was so exhausted that once again, I passed out in the middle of us watching a show! I hate when that happens! Mike and I usually sit on the same sofa together and when he gets up to sit on the other one to lay down, that is when I pass out! It’s so weird.
On Sunday, I got up and spent most of the morning organizing coupons, looking for part-time work and watching some shows on the dvr. When I finally got myself together it was so late already. Mike and I ran a few errands and then went to get some food for the week. It was a pretty uneventful Sunday if you ask me.
For dinner we decided to continue our Italian theme for the weekend. Keep in mind, I am now sick of Italian food and I need a major break! We decided to eat pizza. We used the Pillsbury pizza crust.
For our sauce we found a new one that was cheap and on sale!

My plate (sorry for the paper plates, we forgot to run the dishwasher!)Roasted green beans, broccoli and butternut squash on the side
Dinner was tasty and it definitely made up for the bad experience at the Macaroni Grill. I really hope that Mike had a great birthday weekend. I felt bad that we couldn’t go out and do more to celebrate. It’s hard when money is really tight. I think the most important thing is that we were able to celebrate together. That is what makes things special is when you are with someone who you love.
Now here we are Monday and back at work. I’m hoping today goes by quickly! I’m very tired and I could use to go to sleep early tonight. Have a great Monday!
