Raw Chicken At The Outback…

Good Morning!  Happy Saturday!  Thank the lord that it’s the weekend.  Apparently, I was extremely tired this morning because I didn’t wake up until 10am!  I don’t remember the last time I slept that late.  I have a lot to get done this morning before we go to the food show so I am running really behind.  I think we are probably going to end up getting there later than I anticipated but that will just mean that we will stay there a little bit longer to compensate.  I feel bad because I should have told Mike to wake me earlier.  He said he felt bad waking me up so he decided to wait until 10.  Oh well.  I needed to sleep in after all the stress I’ve been dealing with lately.

Anyway, yesterday I just about ran out the door of work as soon as it hit 3:30pm.  I couldn’t wait to leave.  It’s been another one of those stressful weeks because a lot has changed.  I’m looking forward to next week though because on Monday I’m leaving a half hour earlier for an eye doctor appointment.  Then I have off on Tuesday because Melissa and I are visiting a different stomach doctor for her because the last one we went to was awful.  We need a second opinion.  Plus, her and I are super excited because we are going out exploring after her appointment.  I’ve been wanting to show her this outdoor shopping mall and farmer’s market by my work and now I’m finally getting the chance.  Yay!  So those are two things to look forward to next week.

When I got done work, I ran some errands.  I went to Staples, Target and Kohl’s.  I’ve been on the lookout for candy corn m&m’s I keep seeing in the blog world.  Where are you guys finding them?  I’m dying to try them.  I’m thinking I might need to check Walmart. They seem to have everything I’m looking for lately.  Oh, and something to note.  I tried one of those Healthy Choice meals that I got for a $1 the other day.  I tried the Pumpkin Ravioli.  Do not try it.  It’s awful!  Thankfully I didn’t spend much for it.  I still ate it because I didn’t want to waste food or waste money buying something at work.  Just don’t buy it.

Mike and I decided to go to Outback Steakhouse for dinner last night once he got home from the gym and I got done baking.  I was planning on bringing cupcakes to his cousin’s house tonight.  Well that didn’t work out so well.  I was frosting the cupcakes when they were still warm and they look beyond awful.  Definitely the worst looking cupcakes I ever made.  I wasted so much time and effort making them too.  :(  Oh well.  I need to definitely get a cooling rack for baking.  I think that would have helped matters.

So Outback, we got there pretty late so there wasn’t a wait for a table which was good.  We instantly got seated and ordered drinks.  I had entered a contest Outback was having a while ago on Facebook where they were giving away free steak dinners to everyone who entered.  So I had a coupon that was going to expire next week.  I haven’t been a huge fan of steak lately.  I’ll have a hamburger or a roast but for some reason I just don’t want to eat a slab of steak.  I dunno.

So Mike knew what he was going to order for dinner the second we sat down because of the coupon. I on the other hand had no clue.  I knew that I definitely wanted a sweet potato.  That was something I was craving last night.  I decided to order their new Grilled Chicken Cobb salad without the bacon with my sweet potato.

The sweet potato came out and looked yummy except for the massive slab of butter that was stuck in the center.  I definitely had to remove that. I only like a little bit of butter on my potatoes.  I don’t like a huge gob of it.

Then I got my salad.  Before I post a picture, let me explain something first.  I am very cautious when going out to eat at a restaurant.  I always inspect my food a million times before eating it.  This reason is because several years ago back when it was the summer before my senior year of high school, my family and I went on vacation.  We went on summer vacations every year. This year we were going to Arizona, New Mexico, and Las Vegas.  In Arizona, we decided to eat dinner at a California Pizza Kitchen.  Unfortunately, right after I ate my pizza, I got the most violently sick I have ever been in my entire life.  I was food poisoned.   We ended up going to the hospital and I was pretty sick the rest of our trip until we made it to Las Vegas and I finally started feeling better.  Getting food poisoned in the Arizona heat was awful.   Ever since then I am extremely careful when going out to eat dinner.  You might be asking why am I explaining all of this to you?  Well this is why.  Here was my salad.

Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad

I started cutting the chicken because they were in large strips when I noticed the chicken appeared to be pink!  The more I cut the chicken, the more I began to see that it was COMPLETELY RAW inside!  It wasn’t warm when I touched the chicken either!  If you look closely at the picture, you can see the pink on the chicken.  I couldn’t believe I was served raw chicken!  Did the cook not check the food before sending it out of the kitchen??  It’s not like the restaurant was crowded either.  I couldn’t believe it.  I was VERY disgusted.

I got the waitresses attention and showed her the chicken.  She was in utter disbelief.  I told her to just give me a new salad without the chicken.  I wasn’t taking any chances.  I was so lucky that I double checked my food before eating it because I would have been violently ill. I could have had salmonella poisoning!  Just what I would have needed.

The manager came over and didn’t really seem to care when I was telling her about it and how I could have gotten sick.  They took my salad and potato off the bill as well as Mike’s dinner because we had the coupon.  So all we had to pay for were our drinks.  Regardless, I am so disgusted and completely turned off to eating chicken at a restaurant now.

I wanted to post this to tell everyone, PLEASE check your food before eating it at a restaurant.  You don’t want to get sick.  It’s better to be safe than sorry!  I have contacted Outback and I hope that they can do something about this.  I think they need to double-check their safety practices in the kitchen because someone is going to get sick.  Not everyone checks their food obsessively like I do.  I am extremely turned off by Outback and will never return.

Do you always check your food when eating at a restaurant?  Have you ever been food poisoned?

So that’s my story for the day!  Now I better hop in the shower and start getting ready or else Mike and I will never make it to the food event.  Have a great day!  :)

  1. Candy corn M&Ms?! Wow, do they sound delicious!!

So glad you checked the chicken before you ate it. How awful to serve anyone a meal in that condition. It’s good that they compensated by giving you the meal for free, but still. How unsafe is that?!

    • Yeah! I’m on a mission to find them! :)

I totally agree with you. I’m so glad that I checked it before eating it. It’s so unsafe. I really hope they do something about the food preparation and safety in that restaurant. It’s awful.
