Hi there! Happy rainy Wednesday! I don’t know what is up with the weather this week but it is beyond awful. All it does is rain and is really foggy! I hate this weather. It’s the type of weather that you just wanna crawl back into bed and watch movies all day. At least that is what I would like to do.
Anyway, yesterday Krissie from A Philly Nerd Girl and I finally decided to meet! We discovered that we both work really close to each other and get done work around the same time so why not meet. I arrived at the bar that we were meeting at first. I was really overwhelmed by their choices in beer. I have never seen so many different beers. Of course, I had no clue what to order. So the bartender gave me 2 samples to try according to the types of beer I like drinking. I ended up really liking one of them. I have no clue which one I was drinking but it tasted good and that was all that matters.
Krissie arrived shortly after me ordering my beer. I always get nervous meeting new people. As I mentioned before, I used to be extremely shy and I’ve come out of my shell quite a bit. However, with meeting new people, I still get nervous. Our conversation went really well! Krissie made it easy to talk to her. We found out that we both have a lot in common in relation to things that we have dealt with in our families. It’s really nice to find someone to connect with on that type of level. We actually ended up talking for over 2 hours! I didn’t even realize that it had been that long. She is really funny and such a nice person with a huge heart. I’m looking forward to hanging out with her again and getting to know her better. I love making new friends.
On my way home, I talked to Mike for a bit about dinner. We had plans on what were going to make. We were going to make mashed potates for Shepard’s Pie. I love making that and have made it several times. However, I was stuck in a ton of traffic so it was up to Mike to cook dinner. I know he was feeling overwhelmed but I was confident that he would be able to do it as long as he had the recipes in front of him.
When I walked through the front door, the house smelled wonderful! It was great to see Mike cooking in the kitchen and making dinner for us.
Dinner came out fantastic! I love this dish so much. It’s so comforting! I can’t believe I waited 27 years to try this dish! I never even knew was it was until I saw people making it in the blog world. I can see us making this a lot in the winter. I was so proud of Mike on his dinner accomplishment. Get this, he even enjoyed cooking this entire meal himself! Yay!
Now, let’s get to Wedding Talk Wednesday! For the feature today, I have decided to discuss the Wedding Cake! This is an important aspect on the wedding day. It is a focal point during the reception. It is one of the first things that your guests will see when they walk into your reception. I have absolutely no clue what I would like for our wedding cake to look like! I have some ideas but nothing is concrete. I would like to incorporate an aspect of my wedding dress into the cake. I think that would be such a great detail. I can’t discuss that on here because Mike reads my blog and I don’t want him to have any ideas of what my dress looks like!
I am going to post some wedding cake styles that I like. I know that for our cake topper, I would like Mike’s last initial in crystals, like this (*this is not going to be our last initial, it’s just an example of what I like):

I am a fan of Bethenny Frankel’s wedding cake. The only aspect of the cake that I really don’t like is the bow on top. That would be replaced by a cake topper:

This next cake below, I like the style of the cake but obviously instead of the pink ribbon, I would have a plum ribbon:

I think I really like the square wedding cake as opposed to the round layers. I want the cake to be a wow factor. I don’t want it to be all that traditional. I want it to have aspects of the wedding and my dress on it. I just don’t have a concrete picture in my head of exactly what I want it to be but those pictures above are some of the styles that I like.
I’m thinking it will be 3 tiers. The one tier will be a flavor of my choosing which will probably be chocolate cake with peanut butter filling or something with peanut butter incorporated because chocolate and peanut butter are my favorite! Mike will choose a layer that he wants. I’m not sure what he will pick yet and then the top layer we will choose something that we both like together because that is what we will be enjoying on our 1 year anniversary. So it has to be something that we both like.
I like that this cake table has the letters “I Do” on it with the candles and rose petals. I like the idea of having some rose petals, candles and I would prefer to have “We Do” on the table.

The letters are something that I am planning on doing myself. I’m planning on getting those letters from a craft store and either spray painting them or using scrapbook paper to modge podge it. I’ve never done either of those things before. So if you have any tips or tricks, please let me know! I could use all the help I can get.
I really like these toasting flutes and matching cake server from Things Remembered:
So now, let me ask you! What kind of wedding cake do you want at your wedding or what wedding cake did you have at your wedding if you are married? What flavors would you want? How would you decorate your cake table? I can’t wait to read your opinions and ideas!
Oh, and this is completely off topic but I finally watched Hart of Dixie and I really like it! So far my two favorite new shows of the fall are Hart of Dixie and Pan Am!
Alright, time to get back to work! Have a good morning!

Aw, you are too sweet! I loved hanging out with you yesterday and can’t wait til we do it again.
Since we are FB friends (how official of us), you can find the album I have with my sister’s wedding and her cake was SO adorable. It’s round, but they topped it with two beach chairs since he met her on the beach in DE. I can’t copy her, but man it was adorable. No idea what I would do, Scott and I met at Drexel so if we do marry I’d want that somehow worked in. And if you need helping hands for crafty stuff let me know! I love doing that stuff!
Thank you!
I looked at the cake and it definitely was really cute!! I love the cake topper. I think that is so cute that they incorporated how they met into the cake. Too cute!
Thank you so much. That is really nice of you!
First of all: isn’t Things Remembered AWESOME? Love, love, love that store!!
Your cake ideas are all so pretty. The square-tier cakes have such an elegance to them, especially with the ribbons wound around. And how cool that you’re incorporating aspects from your dress! It’s going to look beautiful.
I’m so glad you and Krissie had such a great time yesterday! It’s always wonderful to finally meet in person after chatting with someone online for so long
Yes, it definitely is an awesome store!
Aw, thank you!! I think the square cakes look elegant too. I like that they aren’t as traditional as the circular cake. Thank you so much! It’s going to be difficult trying to incorporate aspects of my dress into the cake. I’m going to have to talk to the bakery while Mike isn’t around so they can see what I mean. I hope it works out!
I totally agree with you.
I love Shephard’s pie. When I was in high school I used to babysit twins for an Irish family and they would often make it.
I love the square cake idea, especially the second one. I also love the plum ribbon going around the tiers, simple elegance. I know one of the layers in my cake will be red velvet with cream cheese filling. It’s one of mine and Tommy’s favs.
I can’t wait to see how everything turns out!
That is awesome! I’m glad that I finally discovered it. It’s soo good!
Me too! I think it does look really elegant. Mmm..I love red velvet too. I’m not a fan of the cream cheese filling though. I do like a good red velvet cake though.
Aw, thank you! Me too! Haha..I really need to get a move on with the things that I’m doing myself. I feel like I’m falling behind.
I LOVE square cakes. I think such a little change makes a big deal.
Me too! I think they look much more modern. I’m just not a fan of the circular cakes. It too traditional for me.
[...] Wedding Talk Wednesday: The Wedding Cake!… [...]
I just got married in July and we had a chocolate cake with peanut butter mouse and chocolate gnache filling and white butter cream icing. It was AMAZING!
Congrats on your wedding! That sounds amazing! I love peanut butter mousse.
