A Bridal Disappointment & Chow284…

Hi there!  Happy Tuesday!  It is so foggy outside today, I could barely see how to drive to work!  It’s awful!  I think it’s because it’s just so humid outside.  The temperature is supposed to drop as the week goes on so that is a good thing!  Yesterday it took me so long to get home from work because there was a huge accident on one of the highways I drive on.  I was afraid that Melissa and I were going to miss the bridal show because of me getting to her house so late.  Thankfully, I was only put 15-20 minutes behind schedule.  So that was good.

I picked Melissa up and we decided to get dinner before going to the bridal show. We decided to go to CHOW284.   We had both never been there before so we decided to try it out and see what it was like.  I really liked how it was decorated and set up inside.  It had a very modern feel to the place.  They have drink specials every night and their beers aren’t badly priced at all.  Their menu isn’t priced too high either.  I think the most expensive item on the menu is $14, which is not bad.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to order for dinner.  They had a lot of great sounding meals.  I was trying to be careful because I’ve been having some issues with my stomach.  I’m not quite sure what is going on with it as of lately.  I opted for the Crab Cake Platter (Breadless twin crab cakes made with tender lump & sweet claw meat served with lemon Dijon aioli and steamed broccoli).

Crabcakes

The crab cakes were delicious!  They had a ton of flavor and the aioli was a nice complement.  The broccoli was cooked perfectly.  I hate when you order broccoli at restaurants and it’s either barely cooked or overcooked.  This was cooked just right.  I think I would definitely go back for dinner or drinks or both.  It was a different atmosphere and I would like to try other items off of their menu.

After dinner, we had some time to kill before the bridal show, so we ventured over to Target.  We browsed the store for a little bit and surprisingly neither one of us bought anything!  I’m shocked!  It’s rare to walk out of Target with nothing.

Now, it was time for the bridal show!  It was the first one that Melissa and I ever attended.  I wasn’t sure what to expect especially since I already have all of my vendors.  I was looking for stationary items and honeymoon related information.  I was hoping to actually win a honeymoon.  They didn’t have a contest that I noticed to win a honeymoon.  It was oddly set up.  The majority of the booths we walked past.  We did stop to talk to a travel agent.  I got some great information about honeymoon locations and details.  So that was a positive thing.

We got bombarded by some obnoxious vendor trying to sell us lighting.  When I proceeded to try to ignore him, I said I already have lighting.  Of course he talked down about what I am doing about lighting.  Little does he know that I am a certified wedding planner and I will be sure to never recommend his services to anyone who asks me about lighting!  That is a must!  I will not stand for obnoxious vendors.  Who wants to deal with someone like that?  Ugh.

Melissa and I tried a caramel apple martini that was delicious!  I think that was the highlight of the bridal show.  It made me realize that I guess I really don’t need to attend any of these shows.  Unless, there are huge bridal shows with more companies.  I thought we might have been able to win things for the bachelorette party or something.  I saw two raffles and they were for very small items.  Very disappointing.

After our disappointing time, we went to some stores and did some browsing.  We went to Jo-Ann Fabrics so I could show Melissa some of my ideas for the wedding and she loved them.  So that made me feel good!  :) I also picked up a new piping tip to use for frosting cupcakes.  Then we went to BJ’s Warehouse and just explored the store to see if there were any good deals.  I had a good time hanging out with Melissa despite the disappointing bridal show.

The rest of the night, I spent catching up on the new episode of Gossip Girl.  I thought it was a really good one.  I’m excited for this season!  I missed Hart of Dixie.  I have that dvred so I’m hoping to get the chance to watch it tonight or sometime this week.  My dvr is getting filled to the brim!  There are way too many shows for me to watch.

Where was the last best restaurant that you went to?  When was the last time you were disappointed by something?

Alright time to get back to work now.  Have a good Tuesday!

  1. I’m sorry that the show wasn’t very good at all. That’s majorly frustrating, but honestly I think you know your stuff so much you probably don’t need the shows to help you. :) The last best meal I had was at Finbar’s Saturday night. The grilled chicken, brie & roasted red pepper sandwich was AWESOME. I want to eat it again right now, lol!

    • Aw, thanks! :) It did make me feel a lot better about everything that I have done. It was funny to watch people not knowing what they were doing at this show. Some people just wait until the very last minute to do any type of planning. Mmm..that sounds so good! lol! I definitely like brie cheese.

  2. I think the last time I was seriously disappointed was dinner at Bareburger the other night. The service was just HORRIBLE. It’s always the worst to be disappointed when you have high hopes for something!

    • Aw, I’m sorry that you were disappointed! I totally agree with you. It is a big disappointment when you are really looking forward to something. Bad service can make an entire meal horrible, even if the food tastes good.

  3. Those crab cakes sound amazing! Walking out of Target empty handed it a very rare event! That never happens to me.

Too bad the bridal show wasn’t helpful, but at least you got a yummy martini. I hate pushy people who talk you down to make themselves seem more knowledgeable.

    • They were really good! Haha, it usually never happens to me either. I don’t know how I managed to do that. ;)

I totally agree with you! I can’t believe that guy actually thought I would give him my business with him talking to us like that. So rude. When people are pushy like that, it makes me not want to buy anything from them and go the other way.

  4. That restaurant is only a few minutes from me – I’ll have to give it a try, since you wrote such a good recommendation! :)

I’m sorry the bridal show ended up being such a bummer, though. On the bright side, it must be such a good feeling to know you’re beyond that point and already have so much in place for your big day!

    • You should definitely try it! Let me know what you think if you decide to go. :) I definitely want to go back there.

You are exactly right! It did boost my confidence to know that I don’t need to get stressed over finding vendors. The most stressful part is out the way. Now I just really need to focus on the items that I am making myself. I need to get a move on :)
